Martin John Bryant, born in 1967, was an Australian mass murderer. In 1996, he killed 35 people during the Port Arthur massacre and injured 23 others.
Bryant received 35 consecutive life sentences, along with an additional 1,652 years in prison without parole. As a child, he displayed aggressive behavior, cruelty toward animals, and social isolation. He struggled academically, lived with his parents, and received disability support because of mental-health difficulties.

The Port Arthur massacre involved semi-automatic rifles. After the attack, Australia introduced strict gun-ownership rules and a national buyback program. These measures were followed by a significant reduction in gun crime.
Another Australian Mass-Killing Case
In another Australian case, authorities found seven bodies near Margaret River in Western Australia on May 11: three adults and four children. Two firearms were recovered, and police suspected that the perpetrator had died by suicide. The deaths were described as Australia’s largest mass killing in 22 years.
